BEACHES

1 – Molly and Chuck are old school friends, and they are sports crazy. They will try anything. They want a day at the beach to have a go at as many water sports as they can in one day.

2 – The Hill family is looking forward to going to the beach because their two sons want to try out their new surf equipment. They don’t want to have to walk very far from the car park. They usually take their kites, but not on this trip.

3 – Mark and Sarah are looking for somewhere romantic to spend the day together, sitting in their beach chairs, and they would like a bit of privacy. They plan to stay the whole day, have some lunch and get some gifts for their families.

4 – Auntie Liz, who gave up smoking last year, would like to take her 8 year old niece Scottie to the beach for the day, but she doesn’t have a car. She needs a beach with good access to public transport. She would also like a beach where Scottie can play with other kids.

5 – The Lopez family and the Gomez family want to have a day out at the beach, before the kids go back to college. They love competing against each other, and would like some sports areas on the beach, like volleyball or beach soccer. They plan to stay all day and have lunch there.

A – Kiawah Beach

Kiawah Beach is a quiet beach, ideal for families with young children. You won’t find partying college kids here. The sand is soft and clean, the water is warm, and the kids will have a blast chasing after all the birds on the shoreline. There is even a special kid’s play area, and the train station is a 5 minute walk away.

B – Cannon Beach

Although the Oregon coast is rugged, there is plenty of fun for kids at Cannon Beach, which sits in the shadow of Haystack Rock. The beach is sandy and rarely crowded, which is why Cannon Beach is a favourite for kite flying and sandcastle building. Haystack Rock can be climbed when the tide is out, but only to the barnacle line, after which it’s protected for wildlife.

C – Siesta Beach

Siesta Beach’s cleanliness makes it an ideal beach for kids. Smoking is not allowed, which keeps the air fresh and the soft sand free of cigarette butts, There’s also a playground for younger kids and beach volleyball courts for the older kids to enjoy. Shaded picnic areas and a very friendly beach snack bar make it a great place for a family day out.

D – Coronado Beach

Coronado Beach’s weather is excellent throughout the year. The water is warm for swimming and there are still enough waves for older kids to boogie board, body surf or surf. Young kids will think the tram ride from the car park to the beach is cool, and it’s included in the parking fee.

E – Playa Norte

Soft white sand extends into shallow waters so kids can play safely in the water without fear of sudden drops. Many of the beach restaurants will provide you with free beach chairs and umbrellas if you have lunch there, which is not a bad way to enjoy the beach with a clear view of your kids building sandcastles and swimming in the warm clear water.

F – Luquillo Beach

The sand is baby-powder soft, and the water is shallow, warm, and so clear you can see the bottom. This beach has many secluded areas and never gets very crowded. There are snack bars and souvenir shops a few minutes walk away, but get there early in the day if you want a shady spot under one of the palm trees.

G – Rehoboth Beach

If a boardwalk with old-school arcades is a part of your dream of the perfect beach, Rehoboth Beach is your dream come true. The boardwalk is full of beach-town charm and family friendliness. The beach is clean and sandy, the lifeguards are attentive, and even the restrooms are impressively clean.

H – Coast Guard Beach

Coast Guard Beach is where the local water sports centre is located, and they offer one-day introduction classes in most water sports. All equipment needed is provided and their instructors are all fully trained. The water is warm, the sand is soft, so what are you waiting for?
