CAMPSITES

1 – Mr. and Mrs Haass have three sons who are champion swimmers, but they can really be a handful. They would ideally like a campsite which offers supervised activities for children leaving them some time to enjoy by themselves.

2 – The Blanco brothers, who love playing tennis and going hiking, always go camping because they enjoy the freedom it offers. They like nothing better than to set up their BBQ after a long day’s hiking, and cook the food they bought in the local supermarket.

3 – Shirley and Sue are kayak instructors who don’t mind camping, but they don’t want to cook. They need a bit of luxury, with restaurant dinners, and they just want to lay by the pool all day. Wi-Fi is a must.

4 – Ray and Linda like to keep busy when on holiday. They are looking for somewhere they can get involved in sports activities, and they want somewhere with nice scenery.

5 – The Williams family like to combine their love of history with their holidays, so mum and dad would like interesting places they can cycle to with their son. Dad is a professional photographer.

A – Camping Garonne

The facilities here are superb and presented with unexpected style, including a chic pool with cool black sun loungers. Wi-Fi is free all over the site, and the restaurant at the top of the site is excellent, with food freshly prepared by the campsite owners.

B – Merry days, Burgundy

It’s mainly tents, campervans, and caravans, with a couple of recently added modern glamping pods. Not short on facilities, the site has a cafe-bar restaurant, tennis courts, games room and play zone with giant outdoor chess. Nearby, the 50-metre-high Rochers du Saussois limestone cliffs offer great photo opportunities.

C – Camping Limousin

The families staying at this magnificent campsite capitalize on the swimming pool, playground and games courts, volleyball, badminton and more. Cycling is very popular here, and bikes can be rented to visit the fascinating museum of art and history inside a 16th-century mansion.

D – Boules and boats, Dordogne

This campsite has a swimming pool, playground and small restaurant; the lower area has the quietest pitches, broken up by trees and shrubs. Despite the modern touches, in the evenings campers can compete in a relaxed boules tournament to win a bottle of wine. It’s a five-minute walk to the river Dore, where the campsite organizes canoe trips.

E – Camping Pamiers

There’s an eco-friendly focus at La Jaurie, with a naturally filtering, salt-water swimming pool. A friendly donkey grazes the main camping meadow and the little ones can enjoy donkey rides. Bordered by bushes and walnut trees, the site produces its own honey, and residents can cycle the voie verte track to an old railway line.

F – Camping Burgundy

Camping Burgundy has outdoor and indoor swimming pools and a covered hot tub for those who tire of paddling in the Loue river itself. Kayaks and canoes are available to hire, and an activity centre with a separate, supervised kids corner is available for parents who need some ‘me’ time. Additionally, activities as diverse as yoga, reiki, fishing, horse riding and table tennis are all on offer and the site is well placed for exploring.

G – Camping Dordogne

Right in the heart of the beautiful Dordogne valley with magnificent landscapes, the action centres on the reed-fringed freshwater swimming lake, with a floating diving platform. There s also a swimming pool and shallower toddler’s pool. A volleyball court, five-a-side football pitch and summertime animations are just some of the bonus offerings, and the village tennis courts are within walking distance.

H – Camping Rustic

Camping Rustic is surrounded by the sunflower fields dotted among fruit trees, ideal for providing extra shade and for those who fancy picking ripe peaches. There’s a shaded barbecue area with a wood-fired pizza oven. The area boasts numerous hiking trails of varying difficulty levels, and there is an excellent supermarket on site.
