Desert Tortoises

Some children keep tortoises as pets, the kinds that swim in the sea, but there are other kinds of tortoises which don’t live in the sea. Desert tortoises (1) __________ in the deserts between the US and Mexico. During the summer, the (2) __________ gets very hot where they live. To stay cool, these tortoises use their strong legs to (3) __________ holes, where they can hide from the sun.
