Jeju
The country of South Korea is famous for being a country of nearly four thousand islands, and they say that if you visited one island every day, it would take you more than nine years to visit them all.
The biggest island of South Korea is called Jeju island. Now, Jeju island is not like the other islands because it’s special. It suddenly appeared one day after a volcano erupted and became very big very quickly. South Korea is divided into nine provinces, and Jeju island is one of these provinces, in fact, it is the smallest province in the country.
The capital of this province is called Jeju City. There is something else here which is very famous, and that is a mountain called Halla Mountain. It is famous because it is the tallest mountain in South Korea, and many people visit it for lots of reasons.
They come to see this big mountain, of course, and then they come because the weather here is usually very nice. It’s much warmer than other parts of South Korea, and it doesn’t rain as much. This has a special effect on all the birds, plants and insects that live here.
There are more kinds of insects living on Halla mountain than in any other part of the country, and that means there are many different kinds of birds, which need insects as their food. There are also a lot of different kinds of plants, making Jeju a great place if you want to enjoy nature.
