Travelling

A – Juan

My family and I live in one country and my grandparents and my cousins live in another. The only practical way for us all to get together during the holidays is for us to drive for about eighteen hours. I usually don’t mind travelling, but a long trip like that is a killer. I try to sleep as much as I can, but the vibrations of the car make it very difficult. Then we have to do the same journey again after the holiday. I wish we could afford to fly, but that is out of the question for my family.

B – Stan

When my exams finished, and I expected to start university after a few months, I was completely exhausted mentally. Chatting on the phone to my friend we got the idea of just getting away from everything for a while. Money was tight, so we got a student rail card and went all over Europe. The formula was quite simple. Sleep on the train; visit whichever city came next during the day, and buy stuff for lunch and dinner in the cheapest supermarkets we could find. We had a fantastic time.

C – Francis

When I had to choose my university, I decided to go for the one that was as far away from my home as possible. I thought that was a great idea because I would not know anyone. Then, when I had to go home for the holidays I realised my mistake and wished I had chosen differently. I had to spend hours travelling, which was both expensive and tiring. I tried to find cheaper ways, but there weren’t any. I had done too good a job of losing myself.
