A – Miriam

Mum and dad love hiking, so as kids we never had a choice about going along, but I must admit I never really liked it. What’s worse, they never cared about the weather. It wasn’t a problem for them if it started raining mid hike. They just put their waterproof jackets on and kept going. I hate getting wet, and walking in the rain makes no sense to me. Now I’m older, I only walk in glorious sunshine, and I keep the distances short.

B – Joan

Our normal holiday routine was to get to the beach as quickly as possible and to sit and bake for as long as we could. This year we decided to have a change and went to the mountains for a month to hike. We followed a group with an expert guide who took us along all the best trails and explained stuff about the local area. Coming from a big city, we enjoyed breathing fresh air and the views were spectacular. I don’t think we’ll be going back to the beach anytime soon.

C – Mabel

I went to a summer camp in the mountains last year for three weeks, and on Fridays we went hiking. The monitors prepared a picnic, and we’d all set off, singing songs and joking with each other. Then for lunch we’d find a nice clearing and settle down to enjoy our picnic with our friends. This was followed by games like treasure hunts and silly races. I loved Fridays. It was the best part of the summer camp.
