A – Jake

I go to football training after school, and it’s the best part of my day. Mum decided I needed to go to Spanish classes, and when I made it quite clear I wasn’t interested, she told me football was cancelled. No Spanish, no football. So I had to go to Spanish classes, which are a bore because the teacher is dull and all he talks about is grammar. I do, however, understand more of the shows in Spanish that come on television.

B – Nina

I worked quite hard at school and some subjects were relatively easy, but there were others that I was really bad at. French was a disaster. Mum decided the only solution was for me to have extra classes with a French person from her work. He was a young guy, very switched on, and we had a lot of fun together. My marks at school improved dramatically and I actually quite like the language now. I might start learning Spanish soon.

C – Lola

We’ve been to Italy a few times for our holidays, and I love the country, but I hate not being able to speak to the locals in Italian. Nearly everybody speaks a bit of English, so we get by, but it’s not the same. So, last year I went to a language school and joined an Italian class. I started picking up the language very quickly and now I can say quite a few things. It’s great fun, and I can’t wait to go and try out what I’ve learnt on the locals.
